The Plan Visualizer is a free agile forecasting tool for testing whether a target scope can be completed by a target deadline. It plots the plan against a low and high velocity estimate so teams and stakeholders can see whether the goal is very achievable, feasible but uncertain, or outside the forecast range.
Make Planning Uncertainty Visible
A single velocity number can make a plan look more certain than it is. The Plan Visualizer uses a range instead. Enter the scope and number of future iterations, then supply low and high velocity estimates or forecast the range from completed iterations. The chart shows where the target lands relative to both estimates.
If the target is above the high-velocity line, the requested work is not feasible within the selected time. If it falls between the two lines, the plan is achievable but not guaranteed. A target below the low-velocity line is very achievable based on the range entered.
Explore Scope and Timeline Trade-offs
Use the sliders to explore scope and timeline trade-offs with stakeholders. When a forecast misses the target, reduce scope, add iterations, or adjust both until the chart reflects a plan everyone understands. The visual makes those choices concrete without pretending uncertainty has disappeared.
Forecast a Velocity Range
If you have historical velocities, the tool can calculate a prediction interval for the selected number of future iterations. Forecasts for a small number of iterations are naturally wider; longer forecasts narrow as high and low results have more time to balance out.
